John Keats And Literature Essays - John Keats, Fanny Brawne
John Keats And Literature John Keats, one of the greatest English poets and a major figure in the Romantic movement, was born in 1795 in Moorfields, London. His father died when he was eight and his mother when he was fourteen; these circumstances drew him particularly close to his two brothers, George and Tom, and his sister Fanny. Keats was well educated at a school in Enfield, where he began a translation of Virgil's Aeneid. In 1810 he was apprenticed to an apothecary-surgeon. His first attempts at writing poetry date from about 1814, and include an `Imitation' of the Elizabethan poet Edmund Spenser. In 1815 he left his apprenticeship and became a student at Guy's Hospital, London; one year later, he abandoned the profession of medicine for poetry. Keats's first volume of poems was published in 1817. It attracted some good reviews, but these were followed by the first of several harsh attacks by the influential Blackwood's Magazine. Undeterred, he pressed on with his poem `Endymion', which was published in the spring of the following year. Keats toured the north of England and Scotland in the summer of 1818, returning home to nurse his brother Tom, who was ill with tuberculosis. After Tom's death in December he moved into a friend's house in Hampstead, now known as Keats House. There he met and fell deeply in love with a young neighbour, Fanny Brawne. During the following year, despite ill health and financial problems, he wrote an astonishing amount of poetry, including `The Eve of St Agnes', `La Belle Dame sans Merci', `Ode to a Nightingale' and `To Autumn'. His second volume of poems appeared in July 1820; soon afterwards, by now very ill with tuberculosis, he set off with a friend to Italy, where he died the following February.

Lightning Protection Essay Essays
Lightning Protection Essay Essays Lightning Protection Essay Essay Lightning Protection Essay Essay Did you know that last twelvemonth. in the United States. belongings loss due to lightning work stoppages exceeded one billion dollars? The mean homeownerââ¬â¢s insurance paid $ 4. 296 per lightning claim and an norm of two 100 50s thousand insurance claims were filed purely due to lightning. In January 2003. the American Meteorologist Society issued a bulletin backing the lightning protection demands embodied in the National Fire Protection Association Standard 780. Stating. ââ¬Å"It is now good established that decently installed and maintained lightning rod based protection systems significantly decrease lightning harm. â⬠The lone true manner to protect a construction from a direct lightning work stoppage is with a lightning protection system. A lightning protection system. with proper installing can salvage lives. protect constructions. and supply peace of head. To understand lightning protection. you foremost necessitate to understand lightning. Lightning. by definition. is the discharge of inactive electricity from cloud-to-ground. Lightning is the energy created by clash from the rise and autumn of hot and cold air multitudes in the clouds. This energy. which is merely seeable as lightning. retains a negative charge. To equalise. this negative charge must reach a positive charge. which is held by land. The positive charge and the negative charge seek the best path to run into and disperse ; intending that lightning is merely looking for a manner to obtain land. Lightning decides on a mark no more than 500 pess prior to striking and does non know apart on what it strikes. Lightning protection systems provide an efficient way for lightning to make the land safely. without destructing constructions. The system does non pull lightning. nor deter. but instead acts as a canopy of protection. Lightning protection systems are interconnected to organize a ââ¬Å"cageâ⬠around the margin of the construction. Every component of the lightning protection system has to link to organize common foundation. There are five elements that make up a lightning protection system. The five elements are lightning rods. overseas telegram. land rods. adhering stuffs and rush protection. The lightning rods are positioned at the really top of the lightning protection system. Their map is to take the direct work stoppage of the lightning bolt. Lightning rods are constructed of Cu or aluminium to defy the electrical current as a consequence of a direct work stoppage. Depending on the specifications of the construction. the length of the lightning rods varies. nevertheless ; the breadth of the lightning rods is normally the same diameter of an ordinary pencil. The rods arenââ¬â¢t really large ; nevertheless. they can defy the power of a direct lightning work stoppage. The 2nd component of a lightning protection system is the overseas telegram. which is besides constructed of Cu or aluminium stuffs. The cableââ¬â¢s map is to ââ¬Å"transportâ⬠the electrical current from the lightning rods to the land rods. The overseas telegram is routed around the margin of the construction with ââ¬Å"downleadsâ⬠happening at different points of the construction. depending on the specifications. ââ¬Å"Downleadsâ⬠are when the overseas telegram is run down the construction to the land rods. Land rods are the really underside of the lightning protection system. They take the electrical current of the lightning into the land to equalise or disperse. This means that the electrical current is now neutralised. Land rods are really similar to lightning rods. nevertheless. the land rods can be 10 pess long and are buried at least six pess below class. In bouldery dirt. installing can be a peculiarly difficult. Bonding of the lightning protection system refers to doing certain that all public-service corporation entrywaies are protected along with the construction. Gas lines. H2O lines. and electrical lines all have to be connected. Rush Protection is the last component of the lightning protection system. As lightning protection provides structural protection. rush protection protects sensitive electronics and other public-service corporation entrywaies. such as telephone. overseas telegram. and electrical mercantile establishments. Rush protection is an of import portion of the lightning protection system mystifier. Lightning protection systems are an indispensable component to protecting every construction. but are different for every construction ensuing in doing a lightning protection contractor a really specialised trade. Residential lightning protection is puting lightning protection on private places. A lightning protection system has two different types of residential systems ; concealed or exposed. Concealed system installings are included during the building of the place. The hidden system is designed to be hidden ; as the name implies. During different phases of building. the lightning protection installing technicians run the overseas telegram within the model of the place. Besides the overseas telegram is run up through the roof in particular constructed ââ¬Å"thru-roofâ⬠merchandises. The lightning protection system works without being seen. Some persons wonder how lightning can run along the overseas telegram between the walls of a place without get downing a fire. The lightning is going so fast along the overseas telegram with no clash and doesnââ¬â¢t adequate clip for a fire to get down. Exposed lightning protection systems installings are completed after building. Cable is run on the exterior of the roof and walls. nevertheless ; you can paint the overseas telegram to fit the colour of the outside to do the overseas telegram blend for a more aesthetically delighting affect. The pigment will non impede the cableââ¬â¢s ability to transport the electrical current. Besides overseas telegram can be run down along the rain troughs for even more concealment Commercial lightning protection systems are similar to residential. they both have the same rules. but they are installed on commercial constructions. The lone difference is the tallness. which has different criterions from the normal residential places. There are two types of lightning protection systems. The first is a category I constructions have a tallness of 75 pess or below and merely necessitate a ââ¬Å"standardâ⬠lightning protection system. The 2nd is a category II construction. normally known as high rises or sky scrapers. have a tallness of 75 pess or above. These edifices have to be specified with what is called an ââ¬Å"Intermediate Loop. â⬠An Intermediate Loop consists of a ââ¬Å"standardâ⬠lightning protection system but has an extra cringle of overseas telegram tally around the center of the tallness of the edifice. The loop consisting of running overseas telegram around the edifice is connected to all the downleads. The cringle guarantees the lightning bolt a uninterrupted way without clash to acquire down to the land rods. Besides. some Class II edifices require a ââ¬Å"Ground Loop. â⬠This cringle is a mirror of the ââ¬Å"Intermediate Loop. â⬠but is buried below the class of the commercial edifice. This cringle is besides connected to all the land rods. but is non seeable because it is belowground. Merely as the intermediate cringle. this land loop provides more options for the lightning to disperse. As stated before. lightning is merely looking for a way to acquire to land and equalise. Lightning protection systems allow this to go on in a non-destructive mode without lay waste toing the edifice stuffs of commercial or residential constructions.

Autism 3
Autism 3 Essay Many years ago, I watched a young boy rock back and forth as he worked a crossword puzzle. I tried to distract him from working the puzzle to ride bikes with me. I continuously asked him to play with me, but he kept staring at the puzzle while I attempted to look in his eyes. He took the puzzle apart and flipped the pieces in the air, one at a time. He did not speak, but he made crying noises. The more I asked questions or talked to him, the louder his cries became. As his frustration grew, he balled his fists up, punched his eyes, and kicked his feet. I was curious about his activity. I was later told the boy my brother} was autistic, says Tamara Robinson in an interview. Autism is a syndrome of childhood characterized by a lack of social relationship, a lack of communication abilities, persistent compulsive, rituals, and resistance to change (Paluszny 1). For centuries, medical professionals have tried to understand autism and its origin. The above example shows only a few examples of autistic behavior. The history of autism extends, as far back as the late sixteenth century; however, during that time it was not identified as this illness. Here is a statement from before the discovery of the illness: In 1799, a boy about eleven years of age was found naked in the woods of Averyron, France. He was dirty, covered with sores, mute, and behaved like A wild animal. Jean Itard, the physician of the new institution for deaf-mutes, Was given charge of the abandoned child. From Itards description, Victor Showed many features of autismhe did not look at people and never Played with the toys, but showed remarkable memory in recalling the position Of objects in his room and resisted any change of these objects. (Paluszny 2) In attempt to educate Victor, Itard used a glass of water as a form of encouragement, but he continued to remain silent and never spoke any words. It was not until 1943 that the label autism was used by a child psychiatrist, named Leo Kanner to describe the symptoms. The term autism derives from auto, the Greek word for self, (Hamblin 137). Kanner used this term when he studied eleven children who had a unique form of schizophrenia (Hamblin 136). Although, it was later determined that even though some of the characteristics of schizophrenia and autism are not the same, Kanner did open new doors for an intensive study of a confusing syndrome. The causes of autism are unknown. In most cases, the pregnancies of mothers of autistic children were normal. Occasionally, there were cases of maternal bleeding, prematurity, or maternal rubella, but these situations do not appear consistently. One possibility that scientists have researched is genetics. Chromosomal studies have been attempted to detect if autism is a result of too many chromosomes, because autism is more dominant in males than females, (Ritvo 169). The frequency in males is approximately 3/5,000 (Ritvo 169). Since females have two X-chromosomes and males have an X and Y chromosome, than the Y chromosome can be considered in current research activities. Another possibility is the malfunctioning of the brain. According to Adler, neurobiological researchers have localized several regions of the brain that are responsible for social interaction skills (248). Frith says, a biological defect causes autism, the symptoms which include a lack of communication, socialization and imagination. Scientists are continually searching for answers. During the stages of infancy, the autistic baby seems normal. Then, a period of time before the age of three, the child experiences regression. In some cases, the first signs are at the age of three. There is no exact determination of when the signs appear. When autistic parents were told to think back in time before the third year, some parents said that they could not pinpoint exactly what the difference was, but they described a vague feeling that something was wrong from infancy (Paluszny 4). In normal development of children, Paluszny says that one of the first milestones is the social smile (4). Babies smile and respond to the faces and voices of adults. The autistic infant does not bring about a social smile; rather the child will only respond to sounds and sights that .

The clinical Leaning environment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
The clinical Leaning environment - Essay Example The relationship of the teaching staff has a significant impact on the quality of nurses, it is one of the most crucial factors that are necessary for a positive learning environment. Teachers are also a channel towards better learning opportunities and many students identify that the attitude of teachers towards students and access to better learning are very important towards their development. Another factor which in my opinion is extremely important for proper clinical placement is proper professional orientation. Many nurses are being ill-treated in different clinics because of less staff, work load and many a times, the staff feels threatened by the nurses. All these problems were not encountered by me during my work here. Also, in this hospital, the staff was very resourceful in terms of their knowledge and experience. It was encouraging, supportive and acceptable towards minor mistakes. The entire experience of your clinical placement is shaped by the overall culture of the ward. It gets uncomfortable when students face unfamiliar patients and hard to follow schedules. If students are accepted wholeheartedly in the ward and are appreciated for their interest in the field, the clinical experience becomes better. Hence professional, educational and learning influences do impact on oneââ¬â¢s overall clinical experience. Although in my opinion, my CLE was near perfect, but here was one area which i felt needed improvement and that was the proper training for those nurses who enter the Intensive care Unit or ICU. This unit is one of the most sensitive units in the hospital and one should be subjected to some special learning procedures in order to become a master at those skills. This problem is not only pertinent to this hospital but worldwide also; there are really few publications that focus on those nurses who are entering the ICU for the first time. So I think this area needs a little bit

His interest and enthusiasm for the game augmented rapidly in course of time and it continued likewise till he was 12 years of age. It was the last week of the summer of 2005 and the weather was best suited for playing the game of football. It was one of the most prestigious and followed football competitions in the district. Their team was aspiring to participate in this event since a longer tenure but was unable to do the same because of their age which does not match up the eligibility criteria which allows the age group of 12-15 years. That year their team was about to participate in the competition owing to the aspect that there were no age barrier for us anymore. The researcherââ¬â¢s first match was scheduled on the 3rd day of the competition with one of the toughest and most competitive teams of the tournament. His teammates were worried about this fact but the author had some feeling altogether. The researcher was not aware of what his teammates were felling about the match but for him, it was probably an all-new experience awaiting. There are some reasons owing to which the author depicted this match as an experience. This was the first he was about to play a football match in front of thousands of spectators coming from various regions of the district. This was also about to be the first moment when his game would be aired on the local television network. The D-day arrived and expectedly, thousands of spectators gathered to witness the match and the local television network was also about to telecast the same. A feeling of nervousness and anxiety was running through the authorââ¬â¢s head. As they walked into the stadium, the roar of around 4 thousand spectatorsââ¬â¢ altogether greeted them. Although, the capacity of the stadium was quite less as compared to a usual national and international football grounds, for the researcher, the cheer of this handful number of spectators gave the feeling of playing in front of millions. The match started with a kick on the ball from the opposition team. With the passage of time, the enthusiasm of the spectators augmented considerably. The researcher must mention that his performance th roughout the match was mediocre and was unable to put the ball into the net on a single occasion. The match ended as a draw, where both the teams were scoring one goal each.

How have the values of the boys changed by Chapter 10? Essay
In chapter 10 there is a shift of values form a democracy to a dictatorship. Following Jackââ¬â¢s rebellion most of the boys have left camp and joined forces with Jack, now known as ââ¬ËThe Chiefââ¬â¢, at Castle Rock. Since they first landed on the island as innocent school children a lot has changed, as many of the values which they once held are disregarded on account of them being stranded on the island. When Jack first arrived on the island he was the eldest and naturally assumed that it was his destiny to be in charge. As head choir boy, Jack has been set aside from the rest, ââ¬Å"golden cap badgeâ⬠and it is obvious that back home he was very important and was given the authority in terms of the choir. Due to the control he exerts we can understand that prior to landing on the island, Jack was a leader who ruled by fear. When they first meet the rest of the boys it takes the combined efforts of begging ââ¬Å"But, Merridew. Please, Merridew â⬠¦ canââ¬â¢t we?â⬠and a boy fainting for him to consider the two groups merging. Here we can see Jackââ¬â¢s instant aversion to situations where he is not fully in charge. This means that often times he would prefer separatism, as we see when he distinguishes the Hunters, to co-habitation where making compromises and accept other peopleââ¬â¢s points of view. We know that Jack doesnââ¬â¢t like this because before he goes to form his own tribe he says â⬠Itââ¬â¢s time some people knew theyââ¬â¢ve got to keep quiet and leave deciding things to the rest of us.â⬠Jack was at first in agreement with the request for democracy but this was only because he was convinced that he would win the vote. When he realises that he has in fact lost out to Ralph he ââ¬Å"blush[es] with mortificationâ⬠. He is not sure whether to stay or go when he is offered charge of the Hunters. By taking over the hunters Jack tries to gain favour with the boys because he thinks that the boys will become dependent on him. However the longing for rescue and the fact that the tool for rescue is Ralphââ¬â¢s brainchild means that Ralph continued to have the upper hand on Jack. Despite this Jack still tries his best to prove himself to the boys. For example, at first like many of the boys on the island Jack is unable to kill however now, behind the mask, he kills to show his power and control over the lives of others. However William Golding makes the death of Simon strange, in that Jack does not take responsibility and is almost afraid of what he has become. ââ¬Å"Roger gathered a handful of stones and began to throw them. Yet there was a space round Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into which he dare not throw. Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life. Round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law.â⬠Roger is portrayed to be a very cruel character and this quotation shows the beginning if the boyââ¬â¢s falls into uncivilisation however at this early stage the boys still act in a civilised nature. However like many of the older boys Roger chooses to test the water and soon enough the urge to destroy overcomes him. Despite this Roger still feels restricted by ââ¬Å"parents and school and policemen and the lawâ⬠-the adults who make the rules and make sure they are followed. However before long, Roger and most of the other boys lose their respect for values and morals, and violence, torture, and murder break out as the savagery becomes the distinctive sway i n the group At first Ralph is esteemed and supports all the boys on the island due to the way that he has kept a level head despite being on tropical island. His strong-willed nature means that when others break down he is still solid. However with talks of beasts and mutiny Ralph becomes disgruntled and begins to think of home a lot. Towards the end of the book despite having the symbol of democracy, the conch he feels that that this is useless against Jackââ¬â¢s oppressive regime.

Marrige vs Cohabitation
Marriage vs. Cohabitation There are many people that say that getting married before living together is the best way to go. They have many negative things to say about living together also called cohabitation. Linda J Waite is one of this people, she has many negative things to say about cohabitation. She wrote an article called ââ¬Å"The Negative effects of Cohabitationâ⬠where she states many down sides of cohabitation which I disagree upon. The three main things that I disagree upon are domestic violence, emotional wellbeing, and wealth. When it comes to hitting, shoving and throwing things, ââ¬Å"cohabiting couples are more than three times more likely than the married to say things get that far out of hand she says in her article. Which I disagree it doesnââ¬â¢t matter if your married or not your partner will still hit you. ââ¬ËAccording to the American association for marriage and family therapy (AAMFT)â⬠in almost 20% of all marriage, couples slap, shove, hit, or otherwise assault each other. Emotional abuse verbal threats, humiliation, or degrading remarks, and controlling behavior are more common.Once youââ¬â¢re married you have to obey your husbandââ¬â¢s rules and if we donââ¬â¢t there will be consequences. Married couples are more likely to be in domestic violence in my opinion because they expect more from there couples. Since there married they have to listen and do more to keep the husband happy. ââ¬Å"Marriage is, by design and agreement for the long run. Married people, thus see their relationships as much more stable as cohabiting couples do. â⬠I also disagree with this saying that Linda j. Waite states in her article. The reason why I disagree is because there are many divorce rates now and days.If it was true what she says then there wonââ¬â¢t be so many divorce rates. She says states that married couples are happier than cohabitating couples. She also states that children who are in cohabitating couples ar e less likely to succeed and this is a big lie in my opinion. For example, what about if we get married and then we live together, then we realize that the person who we once dated isnââ¬â¢t the person we actually married. Then we realize that we donââ¬â¢t want to be with leading to divorce. In the other hand cohabitation helps you learn the good and bad things about your partner before we ask the question. This can lead to a healthier lovable relationship prior to the one where we get married first then get to learn the good and bad things about our partner. As prior to her statement about the children, I disagree because I have many friends that live with cohabitating families their parents are married. They still go to school and they are being successful. We canââ¬â¢t blame cohabitation to someone being unsuccessful. In fact many children with married families become unsuccessful do to their parentââ¬â¢s divorce. Married couples link their fates-including their financ es. Linda j .Waite states that married couples benefit more in income if there married which I disagree. In fact, cohabitation offers similar benefits to marriage without the potential pain of divorce. ââ¬Å"If you're just living together and if one of you decides they want to leaveâ⬠¦ â⬠said one participant, ââ¬Å"you can leave and it will just be OK â⬠¦ whereas if you're married you've got to go through lawyers and attorneys, and depending on the type of situation it is it can be an ugly divorce. â⬠So no if were married we do benefit more in wealth it will be the same benefit because couples actually decide to do cohabitation to share expenses . ttp://www. theatlantic. com/health/archive/2012/02/the-marriage-problem-why-many-are-choosing-cohabitation-instead/252505/ People get married because theyââ¬â¢re afraid of being lonely for the rest of their lives. There not realizing that by rushing into marriage that they can end up having a divorced life. When yo u live in cohabitation you have the liberty to leave when you want no broken vows. So do we rather want to have a divorced life or be happy thatââ¬â¢s the question to ask ourselves before getting married? http://www. gwu. edu/~ccps/rcq/rcq_negativeeffects_waite. html
